I am thankful for his service to us, his honesty, his integrity, his gift for true journalism. When I think of a news anchor, it is his face and voice that comes to mind.
I remember his voice. As a little girl I thought he was wonderful.
I can still remember the trembling in his tone when he announced President Kennedy had died.
I get all kinds of good feelings when I hear his voice--He was not only on the news, but he was the narrotor in nearly every documentary I watched in school through the years.
Yes indeed. There will never be another one like him. Unlike the media today--he was trustworthy.
Hey SM...I am playing catch up today. Loved the story about you and your dad fishing. You had wonderful parents and they both sounded quite unique...no wonder you're such a cool "big kid" now and (of course) a Smart Mouth Broad right from the start....actually I prefer to think of you as an intelligent, well informed, child protegy back then....you were light years ahead of your time.:) Walter Cronkite was an amazing man. We all grew up with him on the news and I understand he was THE most trusted news man ever. I always felt comforted listening to him. There will never be another one like him. They broke that mold. Thanks for leaving a tribute for him and reminding us all to remember this man.

I was heartbroken to hear that Uncle Walter had passed away. I remember watching the news with him every night.
He had a wonderful integrity...something today's anchormen so glaringly lack.
Sweet tribute.
:)
Very sweet, SMB.
Oh, so sad.

I blogged about Uncle Walter too. Even though his life was so full and long, I was still very sad.
xo
I was very sad to hear about his passing.
I always remembered him and David Brinkley!
How awesome was he at delivering the news as it should be done.... none of this fluff news. I feel honored to have grown up during his on air years.

Walter was fabulous!! Very bright man. I do not have a lot of faith in our current crop of well manicured newscasters.
It makes me feel very old. *sigh*
Sad.....it feels like the American Icons are dying off! Quickly!
Well said. He was truly part of what made me feel safe growing up. The world needs another Walter Cronkite to help us through these difficult times.
I am approximately 10,000 times more devastated about the loss of Walter than I was over MJ. RIP, Uncle Walt.
He was a classic and an example that all journalists should aspire to.
He was famous in the Netherlands too. Like Tara says: He had a wonderful integrety!
He was not afraid to criticize the government.

Even an old Brit like me could recognise his voice...
