WHERE ELSE BUT THE BEACH

DSC04074

Whenever life gets to be too much, I head to the beach. My weekend beach walks have fallen to the wayside recently as my schedule gets tighter and tighter. I’ve been longing to get back there. The whole family went today. It was great.

First we stopped at our favorite bagel place for a late breakfast. Bagels are most definitely NOT on the DAMN ZONE and NOT on the South Beach Diet (to which I’m trying to convert D1) either. But OH, they were so good.

Being a wise woman who wants to take care of her skin, I was careful to cover my entire body with sunscreen before I left the house. I use a special sunscreen on my face that is made just for faces.

We weren’t walking long before I was per-sweating and the sunscreen began to run into my eyes. I couldn’t see. My eyes were burning. I was miserable and lagging way behind the others. My Harley Stud, ever the gentleman, offered his t-shirt to wipe my face. That helped for a few minutes. Eventually, I slipped off my shorts to use as a face towel and strutted in just my swimsuit. Not a pretty site but desperate times call for desperate measures. Next time, I’ll remember to bring that great straw hat the girls bought and skip the facial sunscreen. OUCH!

After walking about a half mile, we came upon a huge crowd. This particular beach is not usually too crowded so we were a little surprised. As we got closer we saw that it was a surfing event. It was high tide and the surf was just right for surfers. DSC04071 We don’t get the great surfing waves in Florida like Pseudo gets in Hawaii or 24 gets in California but the surfers don’t seem to mind.

My eyes were still burning at this point and I couldn’t see the subject of my shots very well but we did see some very cute little boys and girls being coached by mom and dad on how to ride the perfect wave.

Do they still say “hang ten”?

DSC04069

Look at this little cutie trying out her board.

DSC04072

Daugher #1 put us all on a mission. She wants to find the perfect shell to make a necklace.

DSC04083

MHS isn’t quite sure that this shell passes inspection.

DSC04081

The girls compare their finds.

And then……………..I got the look.

DSC04082You know the one? The one that says: “Seriously? Do you have to blog about every single second of our lives?”

The answer: Not every second but just the really good ones like this. *smirk*

DSC04085This woman had the right idea. Next week I’m bringing a book and a chair. I might walk too but I’m definitely going to read. I might even get that library book finished.

Where do you go to escape when life gets to be too much?

Hugs,

I love the look. I really love the look. ;)

I would sit on the beach with my floppy sun hat and read too. And I thought it was only me that go sunscreen in my eyes and it stung and made my eyes water for the entire stinkin' day.

And I think ahead of how I type so excuse my typo. Go should read got.

Looks like fun! I wish we lived closer to the beach. We usually just escape to the lake.

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to live near a beach. My get away place is still my big old bathtub. Even in the summer I can enjoy a good soak! Looks like you had a great day. I like the lake but don't get to go as often as I would like.

I am so jealous you're at the beach! Looks just beautiful!

And as far as boring old life goes, I'm headed to Vegas, so my plan is to win big then give my job the old heave-ho!

I love the beach, except for the sun and the sand! HAHA!

Oh good for you... I can smell the sunscreen... Love those photos. Love the Look. Love this post...

I like escaping to the woods. I also like hanging out all by my lonesome with a good book.

I dream of escaping to the beach. Since I don't live at the shores, I usually settle for a run/walk in the neighborhood.

I do love the look your girls gave you. At least they don't stick up their hand in front of the camera like my boys.

BV-The funny thing is that I didn't know they were giving me the look until I got home and uploaded the pics.

No worries, I'm fluent in typos. I text with Midlife Slices and her iphone. LOL

Deb-The lake is good too. I like any kind of water. I even like sitting on the patio and looking at the pool.

ST-You must have one of those great tubs. I haven't had a bath in a long time. (before you comment on my personal hygiene, I shower) *wink*

CC-Vegas doesn't sound so boring to me. Good luck with your plan. :-)

Otin-I used to feel the same way. I've become a beach lover in the last few years. I think when my kids got big enough that we didn't have to pack a uhaul just to go, it got a lot more pleasant.

Movie-Ah yes, the look. I get that alot.

Beth-I've gotten the hand before too. They hands were occupied in this case so I was safe.

Dang it BlueViolet stole my line. I LOVE THE LOOK! It made me laugh and you know what kind of day I've had so that's just about the first and only one of the day. You done good!
MUAH

p.s. Where do I go? I go cry and then i go text a really great friend and whine and cry to her and then I feel better. *wink*

Beautiful new header SMB! And glorious photos of your day. Did D1 find her perfect shell?

You know me, I'm like you and head to the beach. Hubs and I went yesterday and I have ammo for a couple Friday Foto's and WW's. If I canno tgo to the beach, I go throw the ball at the park for BC. Also love the curling up with a book like Movie.

And nothing like mindless TV ; -)

I love "the look". Now THAT is funny.

I don't have far to escape. Our homestead is an escape unto itself. I would love to escape to the beach or the mountains, but the prairie will do just fine for now. ;)

By the way, I love your new masthead!!

The beach sounds like a perfect escape. And this day you had sounds perfect. I love the pictures! And where do I go to escape when life gets to be too much? The bathroom, of course!

I really MUST go to the beach. I can see it from my lounge but never go unless we have visitors ... Maybe that has something to do with the temperature being 45degrees at the moment! The 'look' is classic, I am sure we have all perfected that one with our Mums at some point :0)

I retreat to my bedroom with a good book. Or my computer to retreat into the lives of those who know me but have never met me-my blogging friends.

Then, when I get the chance, like tonight, I float on the lake under the starlit sky and on the calm waters and remember to be thanksful for all life that gives itself to me/

Okay, had two glasses of wine. Much too philosophical. If that is how you spell it.

You got one thing wrong - you don't per-sweat. 'Horses sweat, men perspire but ladies gently glow'.

I need to be by water and not having a beach handy, I head for the nearby canal which is beautiful and restful.

I go where you go also. Except I have to hear my daughter say 'I would love the beach if it werent' for the sand'. But we always look for treasures- which is my fave because you know i always find the good ones! :) (she's too busy with her boogie board or rolling around with the waves)...there is something about water that seems to calm everyone the hell down.

Know it's redundant but THE LOOK is priceless!

I escape into books and love to read them at the beach, the mountains or my couch, makes no difference to me as long as it's quiet.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the new header picture! The look cracks me up, the sunscreen is too funny, and thank you for the beach pictures. :) Only a month to go and I'll get my fix in.

LOL - I get that look too. Oldest Son is the Grand Master of "The Look."

Love the banner!!

I, too, wish I lived near a beach. As it is, I retreat to the kitchen when I need to unwind, as odd as that may sound. And these days, I find myself going to my camera; sometimes, I combine the two.

I took 27 pictures of cheese today. Yeah, cheese.

My favorite place to go is the beach. But I haven't been in years and rarely get to go, so I can't count it as an "escape." I like to lock myself in a room with a good book all by myself. That helps relive some stress. Of course, there's always retail therapy at the mall :)

Great post. I want your life... And I love the new blog look.

LOL at that look. Just popped over from Funny Girl and pleased I did, you have a fun blog.

I love the beach too, the problem is I am well and truly landlocked these days!!

I wish they'd make a face sunscreen that does burn like the dickens when it sweats into your eyes! That makes me crazy too. So I do the hat-- I'm easy to spot on the beach. Just look for the woman with the circus tent sized hat-- That's me.

Your day sounds fabulous, even with "the look" :-
) Thanks for sharing.

Today my escape was the sofa. What?!? I had a serious nap attack! 2 days straight kicking ELPH's butt at the range will do that to a girl;-)

I envy you being able to go to the beach since that is what I miss most about California and being stuck in the smack-dab middle of the country.

Love the header picture!

Where do I go?? Not the beach, honey, cos there ain't one anywhere NEAR here, so yeah, thanks for rubbin' my nose in that non existent joy....

Jeez.

OK where do I go? Usually Bangkok. To shop. I'm serious.

The waves are inviting. I love the beach, too.

I love love love this post. Your posts about the beach along with the pictures are just heaven to me! I can think of nothing more relaxing and appealing than a walk on the beach with my family.

My most memorable beach stroll is the one Blue Eyes and I took on the evening of H's birth. It was beautiful and relaxing and incredibly memorable!

OMG...I have the same bathing suit as your daughter...the black and white polka dot one...it's from Victoria's Secret...too funny!

You're so lucky you live close by the beach! What gorgeous daughters you have and my kids are the same....Oh come on mom with the blog thing already! Love your new look at the top of your blog page...awesome!

Oh, I love that LOOK they gave you. That's priceless. I hope you're having it framed.

Where do I go? When I have the $$ I go to the beach, but lately I've been wanting to head to the high mountains. In fact, I dream of some place like Asheville to put down new roots.

I'm not doing a very good job of following my dreams, am I? Dating boys in Texas? ;-)

Oh yes! Give me the beach anytime. You can also throw in an open beach house with the sheers swaying, laying on the bed napping, listening to the waves crash on shore.OooooKkkkk. Back to life.Give me the beach, lounge chair, cooler, beach umbrella and a good romance book or puzzle books and then everything else can be left behind.

LOVE the header.

That is exactly where I would go... if the beach weren't 3 hours away. Sigh... the one thing I hate about DC...

Anywhere where this kids AREN'T is escape enough for me... I'm planning a beach day this week.. WITH the kids.. relaxing it will NOT be... but fun and surely blog worthy...

You make me miss Florida.

Ooo I love the beach.

There is no place to escape here. The kids always find me. However, sometimes I do leave them with their Daddy and rush off to a store to shop in peace.

Girl Tornado said...

Hey, are you still at the beach?? ;-)

If you see a fish flopping around on the sand, would you throw it back in the water? That would be me... lol. I'm being thrown to the wolves tomorrow - my first day alone on the job after only 5 days of training. NOT ENOUGH.

I am determined to be cool and figure things out. Either that, or keep a bottle of vodka in the drawer. :)
