OOOooo, BABY, HE KNOWS WHAT I LIKE

anniversary1

Today is the 29th anniversary of the day I married the love of my life, apple of my eye and sometimes pain in my arse, My Harley Stud. It totally blows my mind that we have been married that long especially since I’m only thirty-two years old. Stop trying to do the math and just leave it at yes, I was a child bride. If you’re a long time reader, you may have read our true love story here in my archives and you know that we have been together even longer than that. People often ask me, “How can you stay married to the same man for all those years?”

The answer is simple. First of all, he is no longer the same man that I married. I have molded and shaped him into a completely different creature. He and I have both grown and matured into different people who just happen to still be nuts about each other.

To celebrate the occasion, MHS took me to breakfast and then to the beach. Not wanting to be saddled with my camera for our beach walk on this day, I left it in the car. Damn! Of course today was the day I saw so many picture takishly things. I’ll try to paint you a picture.

The sky was the most amazing blue with lots of puffy white clouds low on the horizon which looked like their tops were sliced off. I could have called my friend the meteorologist to ask what they are called or googled but it’s my anniversary and I’m lazy. Not to be outdone by the sky, the water was a beautiful aqua color. The tide was going out and the waves were high which made the roar of the surf even louder than usual. There were surfers and boogie boarders. Some of the surfers had an oar. I don’t know what this activity is called but I think I saw Matt Lauer do it on the today show once. It was fun to watch.

Because we live in an area of South Florida that is primarily residential and not a tourist spot, most of the beaches allow dogs. There were lots of dogs today. Each one with a tennis ball or they made their fun chasing birds. MHS and I made friends with a few canines, once again making me wish we had brought Mayzie. She loves the beach but isn’t allowed in the bagel store.

We live on the East coast. At 9am-ish, the sun was shining over the water and it was beautiful. There was a flock of seven pelicans that flew in a straight line overhead. The smell of MHS’s aftershave kept teasing my nostrils. Then my sniffer upper became a little more discerning and I realized that what I was smelling was his deodorant. Still, he smelled good. The sights, the smells, the sounds. They made my day.

No trip to the beach is complete without sighting a man in a speedo and this adventure was no exception. Why? And not even an attractive body. Just sayin.

The beach is lined with seagrapes that obscure the view from the road to the beach and vicey versey. That didn’t stop MHS from hearing a pack of Harley Davidsons ride by. The beach isn’t really MHS’s thing and I’m sure the thought crossed his mind that he’d rather be riding. Nevertheless, he knows what I like and brought me to the beach. My sanctuary.

Despite the Speedo Man sighting, it was an awesome morning and a great way to start our anniversary.

What would your perfect day be?

WHERE ELSE BUT THE BEACH

DSC04074

Whenever life gets to be too much, I head to the beach. My weekend beach walks have fallen to the wayside recently as my schedule gets tighter and tighter. I’ve been longing to get back there. The whole family went today. It was great.

First we stopped at our favorite bagel place for a late breakfast. Bagels are most definitely NOT on the DAMN ZONE and NOT on the South Beach Diet (to which I’m trying to convert D1) either. But OH, they were so good.

Being a wise woman who wants to take care of her skin, I was careful to cover my entire body with sunscreen before I left the house. I use a special sunscreen on my face that is made just for faces.

We weren’t walking long before I was per-sweating and the sunscreen began to run into my eyes. I couldn’t see. My eyes were burning. I was miserable and lagging way behind the others. My Harley Stud, ever the gentleman, offered his t-shirt to wipe my face. That helped for a few minutes. Eventually, I slipped off my shorts to use as a face towel and strutted in just my swimsuit. Not a pretty site but desperate times call for desperate measures. Next time, I’ll remember to bring that great straw hat the girls bought and skip the facial sunscreen. OUCH!

After walking about a half mile, we came upon a huge crowd. This particular beach is not usually too crowded so we were a little surprised. As we got closer we saw that it was a surfing event. It was high tide and the surf was just right for surfers. DSC04071 We don’t get the great surfing waves in Florida like Pseudo gets in Hawaii or 24 gets in California but the surfers don’t seem to mind.

My eyes were still burning at this point and I couldn’t see the subject of my shots very well but we did see some very cute little boys and girls being coached by mom and dad on how to ride the perfect wave.

Do they still say “hang ten”?

Look at this little cutie trying out her board.

Daugher #1 put us all on a mission. She wants to find the perfect shell to make a necklace.

MHS isn’t quite sure that this shell passes inspection.

The girls compare their finds.

And then……………..I got the look.

DSC04082You know the one? The one that says: “Seriously? Do you have to blog about every single second of our lives?”

The answer: Not every second but just the really good ones like this. *smirk*

DSC04085This woman had the right idea. Next week I’m bringing a book and a chair. I might walk too but I’m definitely going to read. I might even get that library book finished.

Where do you go to escape when life gets to be too much?

LIFE'S A BEACH

Can you think of a better way to start a Saturday morning?

Before we went to bed on Friday night My Harley Stud suggested we go for a bagel in the morning as the cupboard was bare. We had no milk, no bread and no eggs. I said we should take a walk on the beach and then go for a bagel. I mean if you're going to consume all those carbs, you should get a little exercise first, right? Can you see the Juno pier in the distance? (Click on the photo to enlarge it.) We walked almost that far. That's like a hundred miles when you factor in the sand. It's a LOT harder to walk in the sand. I'm sure that was worth a bagel. It was a beautiful morning. There were a lot of boats out. If you click to enlarge the photo, you might be able to see the boats way out there on the horizon in the gulfstream. It's a great place for fishing and diving.

And what is this?

I really don't have any idea what type of shell these are or what animal they house but they were growing right on this piece of driftwood.

Isn't this a lovely blue balloon? No. Stay away from this fella. This is a man-o-war. Those lovely blue slimy things are the tentacles and they will sting you. Contrary to what we learned on "Friends" when Monica was stung, do not urinate on the affected area. Thank you, God. Ideas on treatment vary but the best thing to do is seek medical attention.

There are not a lot of shells on our beaches. MHS and I were surprised to come upon this section of the beach that was just covered in sea shells.

And looky here. Isn't he cute? A baby man-o-war. Same rule applies. Stay away.

There were a lot of dogs on the beach. These two were so cute. They had just made friends. The smaller, brown one is a boxer. I was very curious about the large white dog and had to ask the owner, "What is it?" She told me it's a Golden Doodle. A cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle. I've never seen a Golden or a Poodle this big. He wasn't in any mood to stand still for pics but is really the sweetest thing and has no idea just how big he is.
Maybe next time, we'll bring Mayzie.

This is an interesting way to fish. The poles are set in PVC pipe stuck in the sand. I thought maybe the poles were just resting there but the lines are going out into the water.

I was curious so of course I had to ask. "What are you fishing for?" This very nice man (A Seminole, by the way) explained to me that they were fishing for Pompano. The real season isn't until April but if you get them at high tide (which it was), you can catch some now. I caught this picture on our way back from our walk down the beach. They still weren't catching anything but they were enjoying themselves anyway. I had to snap my camera on the sly so he wouldn't think I was stalking him.
Notice how MHS doesn't want to be associated with the weird stalker lady who keeps taking pictures of complete strangers.
