I just can’t resist a guy in uniform that needs a shave and carries a gun.
I was reading the paper the other day and came upon an article about a domestic dispute. If you ever want to get me fired up, bring up the subject of domestic abuse. I can’t imagine that it doesn’t make everyone angry but I have no mercy for people who commit child abuse or wife beating. (And this is where I might lose you.) I agree with Al Pacino in Righteous Kill, “There’s nothing wrong with a little shooting as long as the right people get shot.” Hello, anybody still there?
It seems the S.W.A.T. team was called to the scene. The woman and child escaped from the house. The S.W.A.T. team continued to negotiate with the man because he was threatening to harm himself. My response: “So?”
That’s where the S.W.A.T. team and I part ways. They negotiated to keep him from harming himself. I would have offered additional ammo in case he was a really bad shot. Just sayin.

I get fired up about things like this too. And the part about the SWAT team negotiating with the guy to not kill himself, I would also say "So what. Let him." Seriously, the guy is abusing his child and his wife...I don't feel sorry for people that bully around people...especially people who are weaker and smaller than them. Oh dear, I could almost go on a rant right now...lol!!!
I know I'm a putz, but after I get past the rage of an abuser's actions, I picture the offender as a little boy and what horrors he must have had to live with to become the abuser he is today. I am not and would never excuse that behavior; I'm just saying, can you imagine what their lives must have been like to turn them into monsters? Pretty pathetic and sad. And all that shit, as usual, rolls downhill to the most convenient persons within reach. Okay, I'll shut up now, otherwise, it would be a long rant about terrible parenting.
I concur.
In these instances, I completely agree with Billy Bob Thorton's character in Slingblade: "He needed killin'"
@ Fragrant Liar
Not all abused people become abusers and that is an easy out for them. "Gee, I can't help myself cause you see I was abused" Sorry that doesn't fly with me because I was abused from the age of 3-16 and I didn't look for a man just like "dear old dad" so I could continue being abused and I am not an abuser. I agree, I would have told him to do himself in and save the world the trouble of putting up with him.
Amen, there are many people whom I think we should not waste time trying to "save." I won't go into a big ole list here, because people will call me a bitch for reals!
However, it is a waste of taxpayer money to do so. Just make sure he doesn't kill anyone - it is culling the herd.
yup- I'm with you- I was all like- why did they let one somalian live and bring him here so he could live the life even in prison?
I am with Fragrant Liar on this. :-) And the story in general? This is why I don't subject myself to what's going on in the world in detail. I'm on the front lines of those sad stories (especially abuse - ack!). When I'm not at work, I remain blissfully ignorant.
Happy Weekend, SMB!
Yep, pretty much with you on that one. Shot first, talk later. (at least in this situation)
WOW! I agree with you SMB and Al Pacino's character (loved that movie!).
I know abusers usually come from abusers, but that's simply no excuse. They had a chance to re-educate themselves and they chose not to. No excuse in my book.
P.S. That swat team member is a hottie!
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition! The only thing that pisses me off more is the woman who goes back to the bastard!
I agree with you totally SMB.
My wife really likes to look at guys in uniform that carry a gun
Have a great day..
Fragrant Liar and Only a Movie, not all people who are abusive were abused as children, and not all people who were abused as children grow up to be abusive. You're just going to have to trust me on this one, because I know what I'm talking about. I have first-hand experience.
I also have VERY VERY VERY little sympathy and ABSOLUTELY NO patience with those who use every bad experience in their childhood to justify being a complete asshat as an adult. Part of growing up is learning to be civilized, mature and taking the good from your life experiences and learning from then leaving the bad behind. It's part of what sets us apart from lower life forms.
Just sayin'.
As for this pinhead? "Negotiated" my ass - he was grandstanding. If he'd really wanted to do the gene pool a favor and off himself, he'd have done it and not wasted time talking about it.
Bravo, me too. Shoot the bastards. Can I swear on your blog?
And I'm just doing to "ditto" everything Jan wrote.
ummm that was supposed to be "going" not "doing"...I need the ability to edit AFTER hitting publish.
I have an awfully hard time with a man who does not protect his own family--even if it from himself.
I have NO sympathy for people like that.
I love your blog!
I've tagged you for an award! Come on over to pick it up!

P.S. That dude's hot....
You KNEW you wouldn't lose me with this post. AMEN sista. As for what Fragrant Liar said, that might be the case in some cases (usually those are the only ones you hear about) but in the case of my X aka the wife beater, he was raised in a loving home and was never mistreated a day in his life. Some people are just turned that way and there's no excuse. I don't even think there's an excuse for doing things like that just because they were done to you and it's called "breaking the cycle" or more simply....don't do something to someone else you didn't like having done to you. Grrrrrr........
It's obvious, unless you've been on the raw side of this scenario, you have no idea how it truly feels and even if you survive, you're scarred for life emotionally.
Like Lori, I'd better stop now because I could really go on a rant if i keep going. Thank you for writing about this and thank you more for having no sympathy for those b*$tard abusers.
Obviously, after reading (and getting fired up) I only read the first two comments before I started firing off my own. I ditto'd Jan, basically and see the majority agree with you.
Now I have to go take Xanax to settle back down. Thanks for the jump start on this windy warm Friday.
Now I'm going to back away from the keyboard and unload my gun. LOL
Thank you all for your comments! While I don't apologize for how I feel about this issue, I do respect the feelings of others who feel differently. That is what I love about this bloggy world. We can all express ourselves safely and hopefully without judgment.
Hugs and XOXO to all!
SMB
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
There have been a number of cases in our area where a father killed his wife, his children and then himself. The reason? Oh...financial. Gee...that's a great reason to kill your family. Senseless...if he's gonna kill himself, why kill the family. So Angry!
You DIDN'T lose me!!!! GRRRRR
Mmmmmmm... YES on needing a shave! I always try to stop B from shaving. LOVE that 5 oclock shadow!
I read this morning that the suspected Craigs List killer is on suicide watch.
They found marks on his neck from his shoelaces.
I'd 'watch' him long enough to teach him how to macrame a strong rope.
I suppose I wasn't very clear in my first post. I don't disagree that guys like the one in that story should be shot -- even better, hung by his entrails and wrap his intestines around his neck. Get my drift? I don't for a second have sympathy for abusers when they abuse. I, too, was an abused spouse. I am no pushover either. I KNOW abusers don't ALL come from that background (though too many of them do). NORMAL people don't do those things.
My point was, and maybe the anger of that guy's actions make it harder to hear, but this kind of violence is a rampant problem in America. We are one of the most violent societies on the planet. A LOT of it has to do with how we are raised -- with violent parents or otherwise. That's all. That's all.
Jan - just noticed your comment. I'm not taking sides at all.
I work with mentally ill and abused children. I fear the sociopaths they may become, so I guess when I do hear about a horrific crime, I imagine the person as a 4th grader.
It's a shitty old world, this.
Of course there are sociopaths and severely broken people who have grown up without abuse in their own lives.
SMB - you know I love you dearly - am not at all wanting to be controversial on your sweet blog.
I should have just said my first thought - which is that I'm a big fan of a guy who needs a shave.
I saw Righteous Kill the other night....
I've been on the kid's side of this. I had a student a few years ago who watched her stepdad shoot her mom. There was a restraining order against him and they were separated. He crashed himself through their living room window. My student, who was 14, and her older sister stood in front of their mom, blocking her. He talked them into leaving the room, saying he only wanted to talk. As soon as they girls moved, he shot their mom right in front of them.
Then they had to go live with their dad, who was a bit of an asshat himself.
She went from being an A student to barely passing ninth grade.
She must be around 20 now and I still think of her.
My only suggestion is that just before he was shot, either by himself or someone else, his testicles were removed ! He didn't have any literally or figuratively to begin with, so let him leave this world without them physically.
What a riot....I HAD to read this to my husband who smiled widely...(that means he agreed with you!).There is nothing that fires ME up more than abuse...especially of children! There are a lot of idiots out there that are protected sometimes moreso than the victims. I think the SWAT team is more in place so that he doesn't end up going on a rampage and killing someone else while in that state maybe? Hope the guy got arrested after they talked him down? It does seem like a waste of taxpayer money though. My husband used to say that there are some animals he's had in life that he holds in higher regard than some humans. There are some really sick people in the world and maybe Fragrant Liar is right...who knows what they came from, but that does not excuse them putting that on someone else. NOW...do any of us have to be a victim of anyone else's rage? Absolutely not! There are people that are professional victims too. Get up...get out...get help...no matter how you have to do it.
Ack! I've been dying to read this post because you had twittered about it...but I've had trouble with my home computer.
Glad I finally read it.
My BF and I are raising his grandson (will be 4 in June) because his biological mother NEGLECTS the poor kid.
NEGLECT is, IMHO, worse than abuse because it's so hard to pinpoint...So many kids get neglected, and nothing happens to correct it.
People who abuse/neglect children and animals should be shot.
'Nuf said.
I'm looking for a man in uniform. Since you are so keen on shooting, maybe you could point me in the direction of one?
LOL! I am with you on this one! Why bother?
