THE MIRACLE OF LIFE AND KALAMATA OLIVES

clip_image001

My office was closed today for the holiday. What? You didn’t know today was a holiday. Oh yes, today was BABY day! The medical assistant in our office delivered her 2nd child today and to celebrate we closed the office. And by the way: IT’S A GIRL!!! We are a tight knight group in my office. We have all been there since forever and know each other’s families almost as well as we know our own. We have all helped to take care of one another’s children when they were sick and we had to bring them to the office. We’ve vacationed together. We’ve been thru engagements, graduations, marriages, divorces, loss, disappointment and accomplishments. While we definitely may, at times, drive each other to drink crazy, there is no doubt that we love each other dearly and have each other’s back.

Witnessing this miracle of life today brought me back to the births of my own two children. It’s so hard to believe they’re all grown up now. I can’t imagine what my father must think when he looks at me and sees the wrinkle in the middle of my forehead as well as other little tiny lines that show I’m no longer twenty something. Is it possible that he still sees that little smart mouth girl?

Babies are born every second of every day. Such a common, everyday event and yet each birth is truly a miracle. As I left the hospital today, I began to reflect and contemplate the meaning of life. I mean, “What’s it all about, Alfie?”

This is what I came up with:

Kalamata olives………..and feta cheese.

Yessirree! I was put on this earth to enjoy the flavor, texture and exquisite yumminess that is kalamata olives and feta cheese.......with a little tomato, a little cucumber, a little onion and some green leafy stuff.Olives - Kalamata - Sample - 04

What about you?

I must try this concoction.

I am sure (tonight) that I am clearly meant to watch a damn baseball game and eat some junior mints.

Congrats on the new addition to your work family and have a fabulous weekend.

If you add a glass of wine you could write prescriptions for enjoying life with this combination.

Congratulations to your friend on the birth of her new baby girl.

Sounds quite yummy to me! And like Tricia said, add in a glass of wine and we are good to go. What time should I be at your house?

Movie-Don't forget to add the green leafy stuff, tomato and a little onion.

Tricia-Wine. How did I forget the wine?

Smiles-You are welcome any time my dear. I'll have the olives and the wine ready.

I LOVE olives! Well, except when someone put them in green jello. I did not like the olives in that concoction.

I'm going to run my 2nd 5K and I just may go get some olives and feta. I already have the green stuff, tomatoes, and onions. Thanks for the lunch suggestion.

Mmmm. Greek salad. My favourite. Especially when we had it in Greece, where they leave out the leafy stuff, step up the salty Feta, and the olives are to die for.

Mmmm. Babies. They put the longing on you. Wish our kids would hurry up and give me grandbabies.

Mmmm. Wine.

Awesome closing your office for a baby holiday! I want to work with you.

.... I was put on this earth to help children through math class with as little pain as possible.

blech to the olives - definitely not a fan - I ate something once that had olives in it and it was like Tom Hanks in Big with the caviar. Wiping it off my tongue and everything. LOL BUT.... I will give you a recipe for a dip that you can include them in -
pie plate.
cream cheese covering the bottom.
chopped tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and if you so choose - your yukky olives - mix those with a greek dressing (not too much you don't want it runny!) and put over the cream cheese. Scoop out with Rosemary & Olive Oil Triscuits. Delightful (especially when you leave the damn olives out) LOL Enjoy!

Despite the occasional trials you are so lucky to be working among people who care enough to really get to know one another! I think that in itself is a blessing as was the new birth!

Hey Girl,
According to my Flat Belly book (what a joke that book turned out to be), olives are considered a flat belly food.
WTF
Congrats on your friend's new baby.

Bring on the olives!! In a salad, on a sandwich, or just all alone.. They're delish. Hmmmm, wonder if they would work on ice cream?

Mmmm SMB. That sounds delicious and refreshing. It's getting hot over here these days.

Another favorite of mine - a crusty loaf of bread, some crackers, a good mustard, a couple of cheeses and a dip. Then a bottle of red. Oh. And some tapenade. Throw in a sunset with a view and some good company and you've got a memory making day.

Have a kalamata olive and feta cheese weekend!

Namaste-Oh they are. I had more for lunch today.
I think we would all love a satellite office in the Northeast.

MLJH-Aww, thanks.

Braja-Do you like olives? Have you heard about my true love test?

Beth-Lime Green jello-Ewwwww. I will usually try anything but NOT going there.

Good luck with your run. I'm jealous. And so are my knees.

Tessa-No leafy stuff in Greece, huh? MHS would like that (except the olives) He doesn't like lettuce in his salad. Just the good stuff. And yes, wine. How did I forget.

Lisa-Good stuff.

Hit40-How soon can you be here? We're going to be short-staffed for the next 6 weeks.

Oh boy we could have used you about a year ago. (math, ugh)

Kathy-Thanks for the recipe. Sounds like a goody. (with olives, of course) LOL

Jane-I am truly blessed. Just keep reminding me. Sometimes, I forget.

Auntie-Flat Belly! Pass me some more olives, please.

Di-I'm going to have to draw the line at ice cream.

Pseudo-OK, now I want to come to visit so we can pack our picnic basket for the beach and enjoy the feast you just described. Heaven.

I do love Kalamattas. But I'm going with warm peanut butter cookies and ice cold milk. THAT is what it's all about for me.

Congratulations on the new "family" member!

P.S. I have a fridge magnet with a picture of a woman in the old pinup girl style, and it says the same thing as your t-shirt.

Jason, as himself said...

I love this kind of stuff.

Often I feel my life's purpose is to find the world's most perfect guacamole.

Any openings at your office?
I love your olive, feta, etc.combo, except I go light on the kalamatas, so salty :).Is it red onion? Because that's what I like in my combo, sista!

Wow...what a blessing to work with people you love and care so deeply for...your extended family I guess? Not all jobs have that. The meaning of life huh? Well...I guess if you could figure that one out you'd be a very rich girl in many ways. The joy is in the journey not the destination. Now those olives and the rest of the combo sound a lot like a Greek Salad to me? I love those olives and just looking at the picture you dropped in makes my mouth water! Damned if I am going to have to buy some now....yup..that's not going away! What a little miracle you watched come into this world! You took me back to when my kids were born...there is nothing like it in the world! Thanks for the reminder...both their birthdays are coming right up in 2 and 3 weeks!

Awww...I love new babies. As long as they're someone else's. LOL I was put on this earth to consume as much chocolate as is humanly possible. That is my story, and I'm sticking to it. :)

I've never had this, sounds delish, much try.

My mouth is water, actually...I don't think I've ever tried that kind of olive before...sounds wonderful!

My children are nearly grown...life is about to totally change.

Thank you for your blog.

No green olives. Ripe olives only. Green olives make me go, "Eckburgurgleblech" and spit them out.

I was put on this earth to have a large serving of homemade vanilla ice cream with homemade fudge sauce, and ponder if I want to make the absinthe/chocolate truffle ice cream I found a recipe for today.

Okay, so I didn't have to ponder long. Of course I'm going to make it.

But baby day means SMB gets to take over the front desk, right? I think reason to celebrate will be the day she returns so you can get away from that duty. LOL

I'm ready to hold a brand new baby. They smell so sweet and there is nothing more wonderful. *sigh*

As for olives, the only olives I like are garlic stuffed green olives and that's only because the garlic overpowers the olive taste.
