LUCKY ME

DSC03680 I thank God every night when I don’t fall into a comatose sleep before saying my prayers for giving me these lovely young women as daughters. They are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. With Mother’s Day approaching, I am even more aware of how fortunate I am to have these girls in my life.

Daughter #2 is home from college for the summer. Daughter #1 will be home once school is out in NC. It’s going to be great having them both home again. MHS will be so glad that he doesn’t have to hold up his end of the conversation at the dinner table for a few months.

I’m happy to say that Daugher #2 finished her freshman year at college on the dean’s list. Noleboy did too. I guess they ARE doing more than just playing kissy face at school. Congratulations to them both for a job well done.

Daughter #1 is about to finish her first year teaching. MHS and I are so proud of her but wish she didn’t have to move so far away to start her career. Letting go has never been one of my strong suites.

D2’s dean's list announcement brought back memories of D1’s last semester at the same university. As she was stressed out busy preparing for final exams, she would call me each day with an update. It would go something like this:

Day 1: “Did you send out the graduation announcements yet? I don’t think I’m going to graduate. I’m never going to pass this class.

Day 2: “I think it’s going to be OK. I’m pretty sure I’ll pass but that’s it.”

Day 3: “Don’t send the announcements! I’m definitely NOT going to graduate!”

Day 4: “I feel better about my finals. I think I’ve got it under control and I’ll graduate.”

Day 5: “Did you send the announcements? Don’t! I’m not graduating.”

And on and on until the day she took her finals. And guess what? She not only graduated (which you already know because she is teaching 6th grade social studies) but she made the dean’s list! I wanted to smack her (right after I hugged her).

Me: “How could you have thought you weren’t even going to pass and then end up on the dean’s list!” Silly girl!

Some days there’s just not enough wine in the world!

Once again, congratulations to Daughter #2 for making the dean’s list! You rock!

OMG! Are they wonderful or what. Daughters I mean...oh not to say the boys aren't..but...daughters. I am blessed to have four "nuttier than fruitcake" daughters..I don't know how to do line out thingy and besides..they ARE!
SMB and HS...you have a gorgeous family. Every single one of you..oh wait..isn't there a boy in the mix? HOW many children DO you have?
You sound SO proud...and you should be. I have a teacher too. Well..she used to be, now a counselor. But...then she is a lot OLDER. Can you imagine me...producing a teacher??Daughters! Aren't they great??

Ok..here is the deal. I am going to take..(I already have):) my award (because I'm greedy) and I am going to post it...undeserved as it is. I don't know a soul..to give it to right away..and now that I almost know how to do pass it on, I will. I am desperately trying to think of someone. You talked about "falling through the cracks"..well..I have NO clue why I am even on your list...but..SMB..again...thanks! Makes me want to cry! :)
Thanks so much.
Mona
Oh..for crying out loud..I didn't even congratulate you on your AWARD!! Just too overwhelmed I guess! So..CONGRATULATIONS!
Sorry to I wrote a book! I got carried away!

Oh they're gorgeous, and must make you so happy. Other half has 2 girls (18 and almost 17) and they are both gorgeous and fun. The older one is a stellar student, yet tough on herself. The younger one is just sunshine and light and fun fun fun.

;-)
Happy early mother's day. Thanks for sharing.

Your daughters are so beautiful, but I think daughter #1 must be a Gemini, we Geminis go back and forth, we've got split personalities you know! I would have smacked her.

Let them spoil you for Mother's Day and revel in in. Congrats on D2 dean's list.

Oh, I'd have smacked her too for making me take the bumpy ride of 'not knowing' with her!

Congrats to D2 for making the Dean's List!

Congratulations, Daughter #2!!

Really, though, I'd have loved to have the conversation you had with Daughter #1, rather than the one I had with Darling Daughter a few months after she graduated from high school. It pretty much consisted of:

Darling Daughter: I never told you, but I skipped so much my senior year I almost didn't graduate.

Me: You know you're lucky I haven't killed you, don't you?

Darling Daughter: Yeah.

*sigh*

How perfectly lovely. You must be a wonderful Mum. Thank you for sharing your darling daughters with us. It is easy to see they are exceptional, and a large part of that is because of their Mother.

Happy Mother's Day!

Sorry SMB,
It has nothing to do with luck.
It's all about the hard work, dedication, love, and time you gave to your daughters.
You and your family are blessed.

tera-Thanks. We are very proud of them both.
King-Thanks,King. You're so sweet.
I guess I won't have to kick your arse afterall. *wink*
darsden-Looky there. I got two sweet comments in a row. Michel will be so jealous.
Mona-Thanks. I've seen your children and they are all beautiful. LOL@your award acceptance.
Movie-Thanks. Sounds like you've got the best of both worlds a boy and two girls to share too.
Wil-I hope so. With any luck they won't be mad that I posted.
DZ-Actually it's D2 that is a gemini and D1 is a Capricorn born on New Year's Day. All three of us have a split personality tho. LOL
C&B-Yes we're very proud. And excited to have them here for at least awhile.
Jane-I wasn't really worried so it wasn't so bad. She is always pretty hard on herself.
Jan-Ignorance is bliss, right? A clear case of what YOU don't know won't kill HER. LOL
Joe-Thanks.
BethN-Sometimes I think they turned out so well in spite of me. LOL
WW-Having never gone to college, I have no idea the stress of finals but I live vicariously thru them.
Debbie-The first time D1 made the dean's list and called to tell us, I teased her and said, "Dean's list! What'd you do now?"
Smiles-You should come to visit your daughter in Florida and we can all go to lunch. FUN!
Mrs.K-I'm with you, sister! I love the nerds.
thyme-I'm not sure if you're talking about me or D1. She's always too hard on herself.
Tricia-That's got to be a good feeling.
Pseudo-That we are.
Auntie-Thanks. I definitely put my heart into that job. But I've definitely made my parenting mistakes. My biggest fear is that they'll be on Oprah one day cursing my name. LOL

What gorgeous girls!! Why wouldn't they be...their mom and dad are both beautiful and handsome! This story really touches my heart. To be able to see your kids grow up...graduate from college and be working at such a great profession...teaching....how wonderful. You must be so proud....really. You and MHS should also give yourselves a pat on the back for being such great parents...you obviously did some great work with those two.:) I am right there with you when you talk about not letting go that well. I have to pray about that because I want to control everything...hate that word CONTROL...I rather like to call it LOVE...but I am told it is not! Have a wonderful time with the girls and happy mothers day to you.
