THE BIRDS AND THE BEES

Daughter #2 is taking a General Biology class this semester as a college freshman. She is currently studying the chapter on the human reproductive system. Yesterday she called me and said, “We are studying the human reproductive system in my bio class. I am confused, fascinated and utterly disgusted all at the same time.

After we hung up I realized that now I am concerned, baffled and maybe a little embarrassed. Does this reflect badly on my parenting skills? I mean……..I told her all about how the garden hose waters the seed to make it grow into a flower. I know it was a few years ago but I thought she understood.

I don’t understand why she is so confused. *sigh*

**Note**

Stay tuned for my gym update tomorrow. I'll tell you this much. Getting up and sitting down are not my favorite movements right now.

LOL OMG that's funny. Gee, and to imagine she's confused, after that clear and concise description! Kids these days, huh? LOL

LOL...these are the moments when i am a little thankful i didn't have kids...

maybe you should remember additional details in 'the talk' would have probably only been met with her doing the 'ewwww' thing and running for cover...

did you remove word veri?! or do i just not remember doing it?

Jason, as himself said...

At least she learned about the hose and flower from you and not from some kid on the street!

Okay, wait. I'm confused now too. There's this hose, and the water gets turned on, and, like, it squirts all over the seeds in the dirty mound. Right? And then somehow the seed erupts and grows into, like, a flower that really smells good. Right? Um, so what I'm confused about is, what kind of flower is it?

Di-Isn't that the mother's nightmare to find out that it's all your fault. LOL

Mama-I know, right? I can't figure it out.

Thistle-You are so right. She was very much EWWWW when she heard.
And yes, word veri is gone. For now. Will see how it goes.

Jason-Amen to that, brother!

Liar-Ummmmmmmm, ummmmmmmmmmm, I can't talk about this now.........here.........ummmmmmmm.

What the hell is wrong with kids these days? Sheesh...

I think you explained it quite well so what is the problem?? I supposed they gave her real names of body parts and all that boring stuff. No wonder she's confused.

Not to worry. She'll catch on. I promise. Doesn't that thought warm your little heart? :)

What's this water hose and flower stuff?? What happened to cabbage leaves?

Do people these days not find babies under cabbage leaves? Have things changed that much since The Young One was...discovered?

That is the problem with kids these days. No imagination. We have to spell every single thing out for them. It is exhausting.

LOL! I'm 43 years old and I'm still confused!

My GF gave her daughter the lowdown when she was very young. She is actually happy that now that her daughter is 14 y/o she is disgusted. I have a feeling that won't last though!

My mom, in addition to the "talk", left educational books scattered around the house... so my sister and I could read anything we were confused about without asking the embarrassing questions. Easy way out? Perhaps. But it worked for us...

Braja-That's what I'm sayin'.

MLS-You're probably right. And I thought that I did such a good job too. *sigh*

Mona-I can't hear you. Lalalalalala!

Jan-See, I love you. You're my kind of thinker.

Debbie-Don't I know it.

Fancy-Now, why don't I believe that?

MPH-You're right about that. *sigh*

Lilu-Well, of course this post was done tongue-in-cheek but as much as I've tried to be very open and informative about this "stuff", it can be a little awkward between parent and child. Your mom was smart to make sure that you had the information at your fingertips.

MPH-Oh and thanks so much for visiting. I do hope you'll come back again.

I love the "garden hose" analogy - I've never heard that one before, but may need to use it some day!!!

I think learning it from you and learning it at school are two totally different experiences.

T5M-Go ahead but you can see, it didn't work out so well in the end. *wink* She took the quiz tonite. I'm saying my prayers.

Geri-It sure was in our case. LOL

Don't worry. They learn that stuff in middle/high school.

Too funny! This sure brings back memorys of talks with my kids...oh what I have to look forward doing all over again with the little people....ugh! You wouldn't want to talk to them for me would you?

Smart Mouth Broad said...

Anonymous-But my girls are way past those days.

Smiles-Sure but only if you come with them and we can go to the gym and get coffee and drink margaritas.

You did what you could as any mother would have. Well, except for my PRM. We didn't even talk about it. lol Even to this day. I bring up anything "sex education" up and she blushes instantly. "Diana, how do you know that???" lol

I'm sure that class is taking your kid to a whole new level on the topic.
